When looking back in history only recently communities where too small for anyone to hide anything from their surrounding for long. It seems very likely that we make up for the reduction of community and exposition originating from the individualization in society by actively participating in communities in social media. The vast, in-depth knowledge about our peers seems to have prevailed. What has been added to our life is broadcasting. The broadcast makes this knowledge broadly available. This is most likely to have an effect beyond the group in which this knowledge would be shared naturally. The outsiders are now granted more insight creating a new social playing field.

Critics (stakeholder) can have a lot of reasons to be skeptical if there is no good data to support an idea. "One can argue that helping stakeholders to evolve their mindsets and mental models about education is perhaps the most important aspect of a systemic change process (Joseph&Reigeluth, 2010)." They might just be against the change but if significant positive impact on student learning has been found then they might need to reevaluate their position. We must realize that we will have lagers to the idea of educational technology but it is a matter of continuous education of the stakeholders of impact of educational technology on student learning that will win the over the critics. They might also feel that the billions of dollars could be spent elsewhere or it is not worth spending these type of money on education.

There is no real definition of new media. Online was the first that came along so there is a certain synonymnity, but with the plethora of new media coming along that will change. In-taxi advertising with touchscreen LCD can be New Media.

Why are we restricting ourselves to computers per se. Have not seen what iphones, ipods and digital cameras and camcorders have done. This is the age of citizen journalism. Living digitally has made it possible for people savvy in the digital superhighway, to drive somehow on auto pilot, pausing just once in a while to take a breather like answering natures call. Otherwise the keyboard has replaced the pen, email replaced post office and the goat hearders can order goat grass from wallmart on a cellphone. What a self suffficient way to live!
