NPR's Noah Adams interviews Tom Standage, (audio link on the page) author of "The Victorian Internet," about the history of the telegraph, and how it parallels that of the internet. The book serves to temper the hype of the Internet as a radically new media in it's design and impact and places the contemporary view of "new media" in the context of a much longer history of emergent media.
